Teaching procedures & ways 教学过程与方式
Step I Revision (略)
Step II Warming up (若课堂教学时间不够,本环节亦可改作课前预习完成) The WARMING-UP exercise aims at getting the students in-terested in guessing the plots of stories and acting them out.
※Task 1 Describing the pictures
Divide the students into different groups, get them to de-scribe what they can see in the pictures and then report their work. Help
1. Look at the picture. Is it about an adventure? 2. Who is the old man? Is he a real old man?
What is he telling the young men to do, can you guess? 3. Are the two young men interested in what the old man is saying? Where do they go and what do they want to do? 4. What happens to them? 5. What’s the result?
※Task 2 Making up a story
Ask students to answer the questions, make up a good story about the boy, the girl and the old man and act it out in front of the class: 1. When and where did the story happen? 2. What did the old man say? 3. What is the map about? 4. Did they find the treasure? 7
5. What happened then? 6. What happened to the boy and the girl at last?
One suggested version:
(B=the boy, G=the girl, M=the old man)
G: This island is so beautiful with water all round it. I can even see some birds flying happily in the sky. B: I think you are quite right. Maybe we’ll come to this island again next summer. G: Look! Here comes an old man.
M: My god. You are so lucky, young men. Here I have a map with which you can find a lot of treasures in a deserted mysterious castle. G: Is that true?
M: It can’t be false. Just believe it. (Soon the old man disappears.)
B: Shall we believe him? Can he tell us the truth?
G: Judging from his expression, he seems to tell the truth. If we really find such a place, we must be very rich. B: Really? Let’s suppose it is true.
G: I agree. Let’s try to find the castle as soon as possible. (After some time, in the mysterious castle.) G: Wow! Here it is! And it’s full of jewellery: necklaces, rings, earrings ...
B: Listen! I can hear some noise. There must be someone else. Who can it be?
G: Don’t be silly. There can’t be anyone else.
8
B: You must be wrong. It sounds like a strange creature. Let’s go. Please be quick.
(Just then a terrible-looking creature flew in and began to run after them.)
B: Hurry! I’m afraid I can’t go any further. I’m so tired. G: So am I. But where are we now?
B: I don’t know. I think we might get lost. What should we do?
A story about the pictures. Work in groups. Act out the story in front of the class.
One possible version:
The pictures tell us an adventure about two young men: One is a boy and the
other is a girl. One day the two went for a visit at an island. It was a nice fairyland and the two young men were happy. Just then an old man appeared before them. The old man told them there were a great many treasures in a cave behind the mountain. The two young men were interested in what the old man told them. They decided to go to see if it was true.
To their joy, they found so many treasures that they could hardly believe their
own eyes. Just then, they heard a gale and came a monster before them. How frightened they were! They ran away in a hurry. Of course the two young men got nothing.
Step III Speaking
This part aims at getting the students to use their mind and speak out what they think. So there is no correct answer to each story.
1. Let the students guess the meaning of the new words; 2. Discussion.
9
※Task 3 Discussion
In this part the students are again divided into differ-
ent groups (one group for one story). Then ask them to discuss the very story and write down the plots. Finally ask each group to report their work. Stories 1. The Secret of the Black Tower Main plots 1. ... 2. ... 3. ... 2. The Mysterious Box 1. ... 2. ... 3. ... 3. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School 1. ... 2. ... 3. ...

tion. In this way they should understand that as a good actor, what he says and how he acts should be suitable for the situation.
※Task 4 Talking
