Abstract
Oil additive is a kind of material with good antiwear properties, high
load-carrying capacity and self-repair of the worn surface. The tribological properties and mechanisms of various materials as oil additives were investigated in the decades. This thesis studies the tribological properties of molybdenum disulfide as lubricating oil additives.
First, molybdenum disulfide nano-powder can be achieved by the mechanical ball -milling method, then molybdenum disulfide nano-powder is characterized by laser particle size analyzer Bettersize2000 and molybdenum disulfide lubricants should be prepared. Then abrasion testing machine will be used to make a preliminary research on the properties of the prepared nano-powder. Through analysis on friction Coefficient and abrasion loss, it is proved that the lubricant oil with molybdenum disulfide nano-powder as the addictive has obvious advantage over pure lubricant oil. The abrasion-resistance mechanism of the molybdenum disulfide nano-powder is that it has high surface energy which can easily adhere to the friction surface as a film of lubricant oil, and that the nano-powder can fill in the grooves on the friction surface and the powder has self-repairable ability. The above comprehensive factors result in the reduction of friction and repairness of the surface, which consequently improve the friction and abrasion resistance of lubricant oil.
