I Teaching Objectives
During and after this class, most students should
1) Be able to know and use the words after they read the passage sense , reflect , sadness, pain ,moving, performed, lifetime, pity , master, in total , pain, painful , recall, wounds
2) Be able to find the supporting details according to the main idea of each paragraph .
3) Be able to understand the feelings under Erquan Yingyue , try to understand the relationship between music and the life ,the background , to learn how famous it is . Learn some information about Abing , and learn from Abing , who never gave up hope for life .
4) Learn some knowledge about Chinese folk music, to love Chinese folk music ,to learn to enjoy music ,
5) Develop the habit of thinking further while reading .

1)Develop reading strategies: predict , skimming , note supporting details ,cooperating

2)Learn some information about Abing and Erquan Yingyue , try to understand the further information in the passage .

1) Try to understand the further information of the passage , the relationship between the music and the life , and to express their own opinion.

Ⅳ Teaching Procedures
(Pre- Reading)
Step1. Warm up and lead in
Go to a concert of Chinese folk music ( watch a video) ,enjoy Spring Festival overture 《春节序曲》
① Pick out the Chinese musical instruments they know .
② Talk about how they feel after hearing it . Teach the new words : sense ,
I feel very happy I can sense a strong happiness .
It makes me want to dance/smile along with it .
③ Enjoy another piece , Erquan Yingyue . Talk about their feeling. Teach new words : sadness, pain , moving
I feel very sad I can sense a strong sadness and pain .

It makes me want to cry along with it . It was so moving that I was moved by it .
Step 2. Predict
Predict the answers to the three questions by looking at the picture and title on P30 . And teach the new word :reflect ,second spring (While -- Reading) Step 3. Read for main idea .
Read the whole passage and use suitable words to complete the main idea of each paragraph . Step 4. Read for details of Para. 1
1.Read Para.1 , list the supporting details in the chart .
2. A further question : Why did the writer look up the history of Erquan Yingyue ?
Step 5 . Read for details of Para. 2
1. Read Para .2 , complete the time shaft , and retell it . 2. Further questions :
Which period is the most important for Abing ? Why ? Why did Abing live such a poor life ? ( watch a video)
(lead students to think of the history of China , during which Abing was living . Educate : “Not only Abing but also the whole Chinese were having hard life in those years . But , no matter how many difficulties we had to

face , Chinese people never give up ? Abing was one of them . Abing didn’t give up hope for life or music , instead , he became very popular . ” “How popular ? Let’s come to Para .3 ) New word : perform
Step 6. Read for details of Para. 3
1 Read the para. 3 , list the supporting details. 2 Another question:
Abing could play over 600 pieces of music , but how many can we hear today ? Do you think it’s a pity ? New word : in total , pity ,master ,praise etc.
Why is Erquan Yingyue so moved ? Step 6. Read for thinking, discuss
Q : After reading the whole passage, do you have any understandings about the title ? Think about the relationship between music and life . Help students by showing them a simple Mind- map . Music reflects life . (post-- Reading) Step 7 Discuss and write in groups
Design a ticket to Abing’s concert in Sydney . Discuss in groups and finish .
