up to one year of advanced standing. The Master of Architecture Committee of the department will determine the specific amount of advanced standing individually for each student at the time she or he first registers for graduate study in the department. Special one-year Master of Architecture programs are available to persons holding the five-year, professional undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Architecture, from an accredited school, or comparable five-year degrees from foreign universities and technical institutes. Required Undergraduate Degree Program Units Maximum Elective Units STUDIO ONE Bachelor of Architecture (five-year professional) degree (one-year post-professional program) 24 16 Four-year non-professional degree with a major in architecture. This advanced standing is at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. Option 2 (two-year professional program) 48 25 BA or BS degree in any field Option 3 (three-year professional program) 72 12 Final Year During their final year, Master of Architecture students have the option of participating in an intensive research studio or developing an individual thesis. Both options include a required seminar component in the fall followed by a spring studio. Accreditation/Licensure In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture, recognizes three types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture, the Master of Architecture, and the Doctor of Architecture. A program may be granted a six-year, three-year, or two-year term of accreditation, depending on the extent of its conformance with established educational standards. Master’s degree programs may consist of a preprofessional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree that, when earned sequentially, constitute an accredited professional education. However, the preprofessional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree. The Master of Architecture is the only accredited professional degree offered by UC Berkeley's Department of Architecture. At present, the degree is accepted for partial credit toward licensure by the California Architects Board. As applicants to the STUDIO ONE degree program already hold the professional Bachelor of Architecture degree, the one-year program is not accredited by the NAAB 相关链接:http://arch.ced.berkeley.edu/programs/march/options 学位名称:Master of Architecture 课程设置: M.Arch Prerequisites — STUDIO ONE One-year post-professional program — Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Architecture (five-year professional) degree See Master of Architecture STUDIO ONE for a full description of the program. M.Arch Prerequisites — Option 2 Two-year program The opportunity to complete the Master of Architecture program in two years (Option 2) is granted to students with an exceptional undergraduate record in a focused pre-professional degree, including the B.A. or B.S. with a major in architecture. The advanced standing is at the discretion of the admissions committee, based on both studio work and academic achievement. See Master of Architecture Options 2 & 3 for a full description of the program. M.Arch Prerequisites — Option 3 Three-year program — For applicants with a B.A. or B.S. degree in any field Students admitted to the Option 3 program are required to have taken one semester of college-level calculus and one semester of college-level physics that includes the principles of mechanics. We will accept a physics course taken without a lab. These prerequisites must be completed by the time you enter, not apply to, the graduate program. At the very latest, you must take the courses in the summer preceding fall semester entry. We will accept a calculus or physics course from any community college or university. Students must pass these courses with a grade of at least a C minus. Online courses are not acceptable. For those who took Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus or Physics in high school, the following scores will satisfy the prerequisites: 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam or at least a 3 on the AP Calculus BC exam; at least a 3 on the AP Physics B exam. The core of the M.Arch. curriculum is the design studio, and students admitted to the program plunge right into the studio regimen their first semester. The ability to draw and sketch is essential. Although no prerequisite coursework in this area is required, applicants are strongly encouraged to take studio art and/or a beginning design course in preparation for applying. The admissions committee looks for evidence that you have an aptitude for architecture and that Berkeley's program would be a good place for you to develop that aptitude. The ability to \and visually, plus some understanding of the architecture profession, is essential. If your academic preparation is in another field, it is important to incorporate into your statement why you have decided to move from your present field to architecture. What connections do you see bridging your past experiences with architecture? The portfolio provides you the opportunity to show your creative ability. It need not necessarily be all architecture-related. In fact, if you have no experience in this area you would be wise to confine the examples to your best work, regardless of the media. The best results will emerge if you think of your exhibit in its entirety as a design project. The reviewers hope to see your projects displayed in a well-thought-out format, carefully executed. Most importantly, leave yourself plenty of time to think about and develop your creative work. 相关链接:http://arch.ced.berkeley.edu/admissions/march/prerequisites 语言要求: T: the minimum score is 68 I: the required score is 7 GRE: there is no minimum required score GPA: a minimum GPA average of 3.0 相关链接:http://arch.ced.berkeley.edu/admissions/march#1 作品集要求: All M.Arch applicants are required to submit a digital portfolio of design work in PDF format. The portfolio may contain up to 12 pages of design content. Pages that represent a front or back cover or title or table of contents page do not count toward this 12-page maximum. Portfolios are judged both on content and overall design. Applicants with no architectural training may submit work showing other evidence of creativity (studio art, construction/renovation, furniture design, etc.) that makes a clear demonstration of interest in the design field. Anything submitted that is not entirely the applicant’s own work must be clearly identified. Formatting Requirements: The portfolio must be a single document in PDF format, no larger in size than 10 MB. If your portfolio exceeds 10 MB, try compressing it in Adobe Acrobat. Open the file in Acrobat; under the \the menu bar, select \information about optimizing PDF files at this Website Optimization link. PORTFOLIO WORK SHOULD BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY, IN DIGITAL FORM ONLY. PORTFOLIOS SENT IN HARD-COPY FORM WILL NOT BE REVIEWED OR RETURNED. 相关链接:http://arch.ced.berkeley.edu/admissions/march#1 学费:$16,614.75 相关链接:http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Registration/feesched.html 截止日期:December 19 相关链接:http://arch.ced.berkeley.edu/admissions/march Material required或checklist 1.university application and fee:$80 2.official transcripts 3.one standardized exam: GRE or TOEFL 4.GPA sheet 5.portfolio 学校名称 University of Southern California 南加州大学 学校官网: http://www.usc.edu/ 综合排名:23 地理位置: 加州洛杉矶 项目名称:Architecture 项目描述: The MArch program is a 2 year professionally accredited degree intended for individuals who have completed a pre-professional undergraduate major in Architecture. The MArch program draws upon the tradition of inspired experimental architectural design in Los Angeles, typified by two of its most distinguished graduates, Pritzker Prize winning alumni, Frank Gehry and Thom Mayne. The first section of the program is dedicated to a thorough introduction to the essential knowledge and skills required for NAAB accredited registration. The final section builds upon this background in a more experimental and explorative fashion, drawing on the resources and inspiration of Los Angeles itself. Firmly rooted in an investigative mode of critical professional practice, the faculty include: Gail Borden, Christophe Cornubert, David Gerber, Frank Gehry, Dan Meis, Greg Otto, Gary Paige, Lawrence Scarpa, Doris Sung, Warren Techentin, Selwyn Ting and Olivier Touraine. The MArch degree program extends USC's long commitment to experimental practice. As a NAAB accredited degree, the four semester program has three semesters of intensive core studios followed by a fourth semester of topical investigations interfacing with the Master of Advanced Architecture Degree program. The first semester design studio focuses on multiple communicative tools and advanced design skills that allow students to develop and document architectural concepts. Paramount in this semester is the focus on tectonic and construction systems with a particular emphasis on structural integration as a design instigator. The second semester design studio similarly engages tectonics but with a more performative and sustainable systems based approach. Emphasizing technology and responsibility from a more performative and sustainable systems based approach, the comprehensive design project is undertaken to engage site, place, climate, energy, and full systems as instigating factors. The urban context of Los Angeles is examined through student led programming of mixed use designs set in a supercharged context that engages the broader networks of information, transportation and social infrastructures. The third semester design studio is a platform for research and design topics that expand contemporary discussions in architecture. Envisioned as a comprehensive studio but one focused on advanced systems, it engages computational modeling systems, environmental factors, energy, form, perception and material to produce an architectural agenda through performative feedback loops. Coupled with these information based models, CAD-CAM and rapid prototyping through three dimensional physical prototyping and advanced representational techniques become focused methodologies in the design process. The final and fourth semster studio is a more topical, narrow and deeper engagement. A diverse selection of option studios are offered and shared with students in the Master of Advanced Architecture Program. Content is driven by opportunity, faculty interest and expertise, and varies widely, but clusters broadly under three distinct goals: [1] architectural urban studies using Los Angeles as a laboratory to engage global issues; [2] advanced computation/fabrication and digital technology; and [3] performative architecture with an emphasis on sustainable systems. These offerings represent specific design and research directions initiated by our faculty and fully supported by additional resources from the University of Southern California and the city of Los Angeles. 相关链接: http://arch.usc.edu/Programs/GraduateDegreesandCertificates/MasterofArchitecture/MasterofArchitectureDescription 学位名称:Master of Architecture 课程设置: Arch102aL Architectural Design I Arch102bL Architectural Design I Arch105L Fundamentals of Design Communication Arch106x Workshop in Architecture Arch114 Architecture: Culture and Community Arch202aL Architectural Design II Arch202bL Architectural Design II Arch205abL Building Science I Arch206 Shelter Arch207 Computer Applications in Architecture Arch209 Modern Housing Arch211 Materials and Methods of Building Construction Arch213a Building Structures and Seismic Design Arch213b Building Structures and Seismic Design Arch214a History of Architecture Arch214b History of Architecture Arch215 Design for the Thermal and Atmospheric Environment Arch220x The Architect's Sketchbook Arch260L Landscape Architecture Design I Arch270 Introduction to Architectural Studies Arch302aL Architectural Design III Arch302abL Architectural Design III Arch304x Intensive Survey: Prehistory to Present Arch305abL Building Science II Arch307 Digital Tools for Architecture Arch312 Urban Form and Architecture in Italy Arch313 Design of Building Structures Arch314 History of Architecture: Contemporary Issues Arch315 Design for the Luminous and Sonic Environment Arch316 Place and Culture Arch326 The Modern Movement in Architecture
