Each nation has its own customs and ways of life. For example in some Asian countries, a guest takes off his shoes before entering a house. But this is not done in European countries, even if shoes sometimes become very muddy. A guest in a Chinese house never finishes a drink. He leaves a little to show that he has had enough. So does a guest in a Malay house. He always leaves a little food. In England, however, a guest always finishes a drink to show that he has enjoyed it.

In some Asian countries, such as China, people eat with chopsticks. In other countries, people pick up food with their fingers. In many parts of the world, people sit on chairs at tables when they eat their meals. But in some parts of the world, such as Japan, most people sit on the floor to eat, rest on cushions, or squat on their heels. In many countries, pork is a popular kind of meat. But in Islamic countries people do not eat pork because of their religion. For the same reason, in some places in Asia, such as India, many people do not eat beef, while in other places of the world many people are fond of eating beef.

There are more than five billions people on Earth. They have different customs and ways of life. They judge the world from their own society’s way of looking at things.

Whenever I think about my years in elementary school, many memories are just as clear as if they happened yesterday, though I left it 8 years ago. I remember a teacher making me copy the dictionary because I talked so much. I can still see Mrs. Edwards giving me a candy to make me feel better.

Of all the years and memories, however, my sixth grade year is clearer than any other time. I can even remember the subjects Mrs. Walker taught, the bulletin boards on the walls, where I talked about my friends and my feelings as I went through that year. The reason is that Mrs. Walker had us keep a diary, and each day we had to write “emotions”, how we felt and what was going through our minds. Our diaries never left the classroom, and on that final day of school when Mrs. Walker told us we could take them home, I walked out of that class feeling as if I was holding a million dollars. I can never thank her enough for giving us five minutes each and every day to write. I shared many things about projects we did that year, the things I learned, and what excited me most about school. In addition, there was page after page where I expressed feelings about myself, my dreams, and my goals in life.

I believe every parent and teacher should encourage children to write down their feelings daily. But I am sorry to say that I did it for only one year. I wish I had had more teachers like Mrs. Walker.

60. The writer studied in elementary school ______. A. yesterday B. last year C. six years ago D. eight years ago 61. Mrs. Walker had her pupils ______ in the sixth grade year. A. copy a dictionary B. share candies C. keep a diary D. talk with friends 62. The underlined word “emotions” in Paragraph 2 means ______. A. feelings B. subjects C. languages D. memories 63. In the eyes of the writer, the diary he kept that year was ______. A. expensive B. valuable C. boring D. special 64. From the passage, we can see the writer ______ in his elementary school. A. had many teachers like Mrs. Walker B. wrote his feelings every year C. got a large reward of a million dollars D. liked Mrs. Walker’s way of teaching

Growing numbers of people are becoming addicted to (上瘾) text messaging, a German doctor warned recently.

Psychotherapist(采用精神疗法的医生) Andreas Herter estimated that there were some 380,000 sufferers in Germany. Herter based his prediction on the growing number of manic mobile phone users among patients arriving at his Hanover clinic for addiction treatment.

“Text message addiction is a real and serious illness because it causes mental and financial damage,” said Herter. “The problem leads to depression and personality disorders, not to mention skyrocketing phone bills.”

For example, a teenage boy spent 8,900 euros (US$11,000) texting people he didn’t even know and a married couple could only communicate by text message, even when they were sitting side by side.

65. The passage is mainly to tell us ______. A. why people like text messaging B. text messaging has many advantages C. overusing text message does great harm D. text messaging does no good 66. Herter thinks text message addiction is ______. A. acceptable B. easy to deal with C. unreasonable D. worrying 67. The examples given in the last paragraph are used to show ______. A. text message addiction is a serious disease
